Who do I call about snow removal?
It is the responsibility of the Department of Public Works to treat and remove snow and ice on County roadways when storms occur during cold weather months. During major snow events, it is not uncommon to have in excess of 120 vehicles assisting in the snow and ice removal effort. When major inclement weather events occur, Public Works' crews work around the clock, on 12-hour shifts, to clear and chemically treat roadways. Additional personnel from other County departments are utilized when necessary to supplement the Public Works' crews. Outside contractors are also utilized to assist County personnel and equipment.

Signs
How do I go about getting a "Handicap Parking" sign installed in front of my house?
Contact the Traffic Engineering Division at (804) 501-4397. You will be asked to send proof that you do, indeed, have a handicap parking decal from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Once they have received this information, Traffic Engineering will install the sign. However, this sign does not reserve the space for you alone; if another handicapped person visits a homeowner nearby, they will be able to use this space.
How can I get "Children at Play" signs installed?
The County does not install "Children at Play" signs on County rights-of-way because they are not enforceable signs. Homeowner associations have been known to install these signs themselves; however, they must be off the County right-of-way. Interested parties can order the signs through one of the local sign companies.
How can I get a "Deaf Child" sign for my street?
You need to contact the Traffic Engineering Division at (804) 501-4397. A packet of information will be sent to you to fill out. You will also need a doctor's note indicating that your child has a hearing disability. Once the Traffic Engineering Division has received all the necessary paperwork, the sign(s) will be installed. The sign(s) will be removed once the child turns 13 or if the child moves from that street.
How do I find out when a sign was installed?
Contact the Traffic Engineering Division at (804) 501-4397. Tell them the type of sign and location; they will then research their files to find the date the sign was installed. If you want this information in writing, you will need to send a letter requesting that, before they can mail you a response. Send the letter to Traffic Engineering Division, Henrico County, P.O. Box 27032, Richmond, VA 23273-7032.
Where do I call concerning signs that are down?
On weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., you can contact the Traffic Engineering Division at (804) 501-4397. Give the type of sign and location. This information will then be relayed to the Sign Shop.
During non-working hours, report down "Stop" and "Yield" signs to the police non-emergency number at (804) 501-5000 so that they can contact the person who is on call for signs.
What can I do about people putting up flyers and advertisements on my property?
The County's sign ordinance regulates the signs that persons may put up on their own property, consistent with the free speech protections of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. However, the sign ordinance does not directly address the actions of those who put flyers or advertisements on property without the owner's permission.
County personnel does routinely remove signs and advertisements placed in the County rights-of-way without the County's permission. These signs and advertisements are discarded at the County's landfills.
