Booster Shot Required for School

By Virginia State Law, all students entering the 6th, 7th or 8th grades in September 2008 are required to have received a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster shot if at least five (5) years have passed since receiving a tetanus containing vaccine or they do not have a medical or religious exemption. A number of medical providers have this vaccine. Students will not be able to start school if they have not met this requirement. Parents should call their child's physician or clinic for more information.

The Henrico Health Department is providing the Tdap booster shot at no charge for all students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grades in September 2008. It is necessary to bring the child's record of any immunizations received previously. Parents/guardians/or the adult coming with the child will be able to sign the necessary consent form.
