The Henrico County Blood Program (HCBP)was founded in 1982 in partnership with Virginia Blood Services and reorganized in 1992 to meet the growing demands for blood in our community. The year before, in 1991, drives were held three times annually at only one location. Today they are held six times a year in multiple locations. After the reorganization, our donations went from an annual average of about 300 units to an annual average of 1,134 units over the past five years.

This would not have happened without the leadership provided by our employees who serve on the Blood Drive Committee, our employee donor recruiters and the donors themselves. Senior management's outstanding commitment to the Blood Program has also played a pivotal role in its success.
