What do kids, animals and agriculture have in common? HCTV goes rural in this look at how 4-H projects engage today’s young people.


Adventure Henrico: Scuba Diving

(Running time: 21 minutes)

Breathing underwater is as easy as one, two three, well maybe four — days of training that is. Join HCTV staffers Ben and Steve as they dive into an adventure that begins in the classroom and ends 60 feet beneath the water’s surface. Earning their PADI Open Water Dive Certifications was a little trickier than they thought.  Kick your fins along with them as they sink or swim through the doorway of a new world in Adventure Henrico: SCUBA Diving.


Angels of Agriculture: The Plight of Henrico’s Honeybees

(Running time: 20 minutes)

From pollinating crops to producing honey and bee’s wax, the honeybee is essential to our agriculture and modern life. HCTV takes you inside the beehive as we shed light on these often misunderstood, fascinating creatures.


Armour House and Gardens at Meadowview Park, The

(Running time: 20 minutes)

Built between 1915 and 1918, the Armour House and Gardens at Meadowview Park is a sprawling 600-acre retreat boasting a scenic walking trail, tennis courts, children’s play areas, gardens and a flowing fountain surrounded by arbors with blooming vines. Join HCTV as we document the rich Henrico history of the Victorian style home and Meadowview Park with rare photographs and interviews chronicling the property’s intriguing past.


Art Within, The: The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen

The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, Henrico's premiere art, theater and dance venue, dates back to 1911. Formerly the Glen Allen School, this magnificent building was transformed in 1999 to offer a variety of art classes, showings, galleries and performances. With an ever expanding range of recreational opportunities, Henrico's Division of Recreation and Parks truly has something for everyone. Join us as we take a look at some of the new and upcoming attractions across the county.


At Your Leisure: What’s New in Rec and Parks Programming?

(Running time: 27 minutes)

This new edition of “At Your Leisure” samples more of Henrico’s vast recreational offerings. Join HCTV as we drop in on a baby sign language class, a benefit event for the Henrico Humane Society, a belly dancing class, a Frank Sinatra tribute concert, and a sunset canoe paddling expedition.


Attack Transport: Remembering the USS Henrico

First broadcast airs in honor of Veterans’ Day. The USS Henrico was a trusty workhorse from the beaches at D-Day through Korea and the Vietnam War. HCTV remembers the crew, their stories and the ship that bears the name of our county.


Badge of Protection: The Henrico Sheriff's Office

The Henrico Sheriff's Office has served the county since 1634. Today, its responsibilities include court security, jail security, and serving the civil process. See how the deputies go above and beyond the call to serve and protect the citizens of Henrico.


Battlefield Henrico: Savage Station 1862

(Running time: 42 minutes)

Just days after General Robert E. Lee took command of the Army of Northern Virginia, the battlefront of the Civil War came to Henrico County. HCTV takes you to the battle of Savage Station, exploring what it was really like to fight face to face in the War Between the States. As the story unfolds, one thing becomes clear; the men on both sides were true warriors.


Beyond the Palisade: Life in 17th Century Henrico

(Running time: 34 minutes)

Beyond the palisade takes you back to 1611 Henricus, the birthplace of Henrico County. HCTV examines who the colonists were, why they came here, what they hoped to achieve, and what difficulties they faced. Costumed interpreters and colonial experts tell a vivid, gritty tale of adventure, adversity and perseverance.

Breaking the Cycle of Abuse

HCTV looks inside domestic violence with particular attention to its effect on children. Learn how professional counselors help victims break away from abusive relationships, help abusers see the effects of their behavior, and help children work through feelings of guilt and anger.


Bridges of Henrico County, The

The James River has been a center for commerce and travel since the 17th century. From the Huguenot and Willey, to the Varina-Enon and Pocahontas, HCTV brings you spectacular footage on the bridges connecting North and South.

Coal Mines of Henrico, The

Historically, coal was the fuel used for industry and heating in most of Virginia, and mine shafts are still being discovered today. Tune in to discover just how close to home coal was found and mined in Virginia.


Collecting Yourself: Hoarding Disorders

Henrico County has a support group for people who want to rid their lives of clutter. Community’s Spirit, A: Historic Tales of Highland Springs

(Running time: 25 minutes)

Highland Springs was founded in 1890 as one of Henrico’s first suburbs. Named for its high elevation and natural springs, the little unincorporated town became a hub of activity and community spirit. Hear from residents and high school alumni as they tell the tales of how Highland Springs came to be the unique community it is today.


Crystal Clear: Henrico's Water Reclamation Facility

(Running time: 17 minutes)

Henrico County produces more than 43 million gallons of wastewater per day. That’s more than 15 billion gallons of wastewater per year. HCTV takes you to the facility where it all goes to be recycled and put back into the James River . . . Crystal Clear.


Culture and Pride: Native American History in Virginia

(Running time: 57 minutes)

American Indians have lived in Virginia for 15,000 years. HCTV talks to Native Americans about their culture and the pride they have in their ancestral ways. You will experience the drums and the Pow Wow as well as see historic videos, photo, and maps.
